Now you must understand that an oatcake bakers recipe is, as we've already said, a closely guarded secret and all bakers recipes vary to a degree, but they all start with the same basic ingredients. This is the way we do it. All of the mixing is done the night before (this helps to give our oatcakes a really good workable texture) in two or three 'dustbin sized' vats.

 
 

 
 

Now for the magic mix!
We start by half filling the vats with water, the salt and yeast are then added to it and mixed in thoroughly, stirring continously at all times, we then add the oatmeal to the mix and yet more stirring! In goes the flour and, yes you've guessed it, more stirring until we are happy with the consistency.

 
 

 
 

And now for the secret ingredients!

These are added last and are a top secret family recipe that has been passed down through the generations.

We have kept the proportions of the ingredients and all of the little tips and tricks close to our chest for decades and it is only now that we are prepared to reveal the true mix for the famous Staffordshire Oatcake.

So for the 1st time here are the ingredients to make that perfect oatc oops sorry ran out of room !
